AKAL TAKHT Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti today said that Takht Sri Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh had no right to summon Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar.

Talking to mediapersons at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Vedanti said Giani Iqbal could not summon former Akal Takht jathedar Prof Darshan Singh Ragi either.

Giani Iqbal Singh had recently summoned Makkar over the publication of a controversial book by the SGPC. Prof Ragi was summoned for his stand on the ‘Dasam Granth' and ‘Raag Mala'.

Jathedar Vedanti said decisions on Panthic issues fell in the domain of the Akal Takht as they concerned the Sikh community He said Jathedars of . various Takhts could decide issues related to their areas only, but Panthic issues could be taken up by Jathedars of the Takhts jointly at the Akal Takht Sahib.

He said Giani Iqbal had taken certain decisions on his own, which were not valid as they did not fall in his domain. Declining comment on any controversy, Vedanti said a meeting of the Sikh clergy would be held at the Akal Takht on June 6 to discuss important issues
